What's it all about? PE at TOCS focuses on helping students understand what it means to be healthy. To run, play, and work on the many fine and gross motor skills associated with games and sports helps us develop and maintain healthy bodies. We also desire healthy attitudes and talk often of playing and competing with integrity. God has created us in His image and it is our responsibility to develop and nurture proper attitudes toward health and well being in our efforts to glorify Him in our body and spirit (1 Cor 6:20). Find the complete TOCS philosophy of PE on the "my resources" page of this website. What's Happening In PE: Students are encouraged to soar! We are back! We will spend our time this winter working on a variety of skills. All of our students will begin the new semester with a basketball unit. The younger students will concentrate on the basic skills of dribbling, passing, and shooting, while the older students will focus on playing as a team and understanding basic offense and defense strategies. The 5th and 6th grade students will also have the opportunity to put their skills to the test while participating in the annual free throw contest held at West Minster Christian Acedemy later in January. Following basketball, we will move on into a jump rope unit in which the students will, along with skills, learn the blessing and benefits of having a healthy heart and how to keep it strong. This unit will culminate with a Jump Rope/Hoops for heart event giving students the opportunity to help those who suffer from heart disease. Regardless of what our units entail, we will do our best to enjoy God's creation, be challenged in our physical abilities, and develop new friendships. We want to say a big TOCS "Thank You" to our Athletic Committee which donated the funds to purchase the remaining tumbling mats needed so that we now have an entire classroom set. We also want to thank the committee for providing new volleyball net and pole equipment. Our sincerest thanks again to our Athletic Committee for their generosity. Check it out! Make sure you check out the PE bullentin board on the wall across from the gym doors. There you will find PE specific Bible verses, inspiritional sayings to ponder, and general PE information. Important things to remember: As always, make sure that when your child has PE class that he/she comes prepared with tennis shoes and clothing that is conducive to activity. We also want to remind students that if they bring clothes to change into for PE class they must also stay within the accepted clothing guidelines. We want to honor God in all we do.
