Philosophy of PE at TOCS: I. General Focus We are called as believers to worship with our whole being, work with all our strength, love others, and use all of life, including athletic experiences, to glorify God. At Twin Oaks Christian School we will make every effort to use opportunities, including the physical education experience, to train and encourage our young students to grow as Christians who can work together productively as the body of Christ for the kingdom of God. II. PE Focus The body is a priceless possession. We are fearfully and wonderfully made! Our bodies are the very temples of the Holy Spirit and we are to be good stewards of what the Lord has given us. In Physical Education we will focus on instructing students in the proper care and use of movement to aid in physical growth and development which is responsible stewardship. It is also our intent and purpose to equip and support students in their efforts to translate the experiences of fairness, cooperation, grace, and hard work, from the gym or field of competition to life situations. III. Skill Development The Physical Education curriculum will give specific attention to teaching and training each student in the skill development of the body that God has given them. All have different abilities and will acquire skills individually. Physical Education forms the foundation and is a significant part in that individual progress and training while preparing students for future athletic experiences. Students grow in their skill development, understanding of rules, safety, and strategies of games through participation in a variety of team and individual activities. Our measure of effectiveness will be the individual improvement and advancement of skills as well as achievement of benchmarks. IV. Character Development In an effort to instill and reflect a desire to give glory to God in all we do both on and off the field of competition students will be encouraged to strive to bring their best game, rally around skill-related challenges, and be ready to assess all responses against Christian virtues, values, and standards. Guiding principles in these efforts will include: the overriding desire to unify and build others, to see others as more important than ourselves and created in the image of God, reflect Christian decision-making and God honoring behavior, preserve and restore, and generate thankfulness.
